Primate Cellar Tourism and Wine-cultural Centre opened its doors under the Basilica Hill in Esztergom as an exclusive complex.

The reconstruction idea emerged in 2007, when the Primate Wine Order was initiated, and the project gained furtherance of the New Hungarian Development Plan. The Esztergom Basilica being part of the national heritage, one started efforts to stop further deterioration and to find means of lasting preservation of the Dark Gate and the cellar system of over 3,700 square meters.

After the development, a complex came into existence that offers unequalled experience of tourism, wine culture and gastronomy to the visitors of Esztergom, furthering the integration of the town in the circulation of the region.

Primate Cellar is directly under the hill of the Esztergom Basilica, with access from both the restaurant side and the main entrance on the Saint Adalbert Centre side.

One of the important purposes of Primate Cellar is to propagandize the tradition of Hungarian wines and wine culture. Therefore the grapes and wine are the connecting link between the units of the complex: the Tunnel of Wine Regions of the Carpathian Basin, the restaurant and the Wine-growing Exhibition.

The first Touristic Visitor Centre of the region has been opened here, which introduces the region in the frames of a free exhibition, and provides the visitors with information and admission cards.

Primate Cellar, offering a great variety of programmes, looks forward to welcome local residents as well as the visitors to Esztergom. Our programme offer is designed to meet the expectations of those interested in wine and wine-growing, families and the youth, too.
